Moose Meadows Farm is home to a herd of new world camelids who spend 365 days of the year less ~10 minutes lounging in the field and /or eating hay. These boys and girls are sheared annually (late spring / early summer) for their fibre (alpacas do not have wool). The fibre is skirted, sorted and shipped to the woollen mill in Alberta to return as yarn, rovings, and socks. For our dyed yarns, Moose Meadows Farm has partnered with Rikki Paterson with "Scarves for Hope" who takes our light, natural coloured yarns and dyes them using acid (vinegar) dyes. The colours are vibrant and the technique Rikki uses has expanded the market for our yarns considerably. Rikki sells our dyed yarns at the Prince George Farmers Market.
Soft Spun Yarn is made with a slight twist, giving it excellent wear characteristics and durability.
There are approximately 137 m or 150 yd per 112 gms / 4oz skein. For knitting, we recommend 5.5mm-6mm needles, 6.4sts/5cm.
This is a Medium to Bulky weight yarn according to the Craft Yarn Council's Yarn Standard.
