WWOOFING / FARM STAYS
WWOOF FARM # BC147 / FARM STAYS
Opportunities for “wwoofing”/ farm stays at Moose Meadows Farm
The first agritourism accredited farm in the Cariboo-Chilcotin!

Moose Meadows Farm is a host farm for wwoofing (www.wwoof.ca / World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms) and farm stays through Global Lifestyles Canada (www.globallifestyles.ca). We have people assist us on our farm, in trade for room and board, since 2002. It has been a fantastic learning experience - for both us and the "wwoofers" / farm stays that have stayed with us. We have had people come to stay for a week to upto 3 months from Germany, Israel, Australia, France, Switzerland, Japan, and even... Canada. Many of the tasks people have assisted us with are visible around the farm.

We are a busy family, working on the farm and in town.  Ted works in Quesnel for the Ministry of Forests (provincial government).  He generally works Monday – Friday with some Friday’s off.  Heloise works both on and off the farm undertaking some forestry and agricultural diversification work in addition to running the farm business (resident care, Birthday in the Barnyard, Farm Tours, Evergreen Products business, etc.).  Our two school aged girls, Tyquira and Amity, attend school in town and in French Immersion (the majority of their studies are in French).  They enjoy it when people come to stay… and will be more than willing to show you the “Farm Sights” and tell you about everyone that lives here.

We are able to accommodate “wwoofers” / farm stays almost all year round. Although we prefer people to have a basic to intermediate understanding of English, we welcome all persons, whatever their skills and experience. The only prerequisites are enthusiasm, a willingness to learn & work independently, and a wish to live amongst moose, bear, ducks, chickens, alpacas / llamas, a dog, horses / ponies, donkey, highland cow, peafowl, sheep and goats and us on our 65 acres.  The following are the tasks that we typically need assistance with and the season in which they occur.  We look forward to having you stay with us and enjoy experiencing a beautiful part of rural Canada!!!

NOTES:
(i) The expectation while with us is that you must be prepared to work, inside and outside, and be prepared for all kinds of weather (hot sun, rain, drizzle, snow, and cold temperatures). July to August can be very warm with temperatures reaching highs of +30 degrees C. Winters have a tendancy to be long. Snow typically arrives between October / November and we don't see grass until April. IT CAN BE VERY COLD DURING THE WINTER WITH LOWS REACHING -35 C. To be properly equipped for the cold weather, we suggest the following clothes (at a minimum): winter mitts / gloves, toque, scarf, winter jacket, long johns, wool socks, heavy pants, etc. Although we do have some clothes which are available for use, we do ask that people visiting are prepared. As you will be doing farm tasks, you might wish to have an older clothes rather than using ones which you might where to town.
(ii) Although you will be welcome to participate in most activities we do as a family, please remember that you are a guest first.
(iii) To "wwoof" at Moose Meadows Farm, your wwoof membership MUST be up to date and active. This will be confirmed!
(iv) You will be preparing, and eating, most of your breakfasts and lunches in the "Groom's Quarters". You will join us for most suppers.
