DANDELION BLOSSOM SYRUP / JELLYThis syrup/ jelly is produced using the beautiful yellow blossoms of the common dandelion (Taraxacum officinale) collected from our U-Pick Blossom Fields in May. Introduced to North America in earlier times, dandelions are typically considered an aggressive, weedy species. Dandelion is from "dent-de-lion", or lion's tooth, in reference to its leaves. The plant is entirely edible - the leaves as greens (in salads) and the root as a vegetable or a coffee substitute. The syrup and jelly have a delicate flavour that resembles honey - it is lovely in tea, on warm biscuits, ice cream or pancakes.CODES:

INDIAN BLUE PEAFOWL |
Indian Blue Peafowl or Commn Peafowl or Blue Peafowl (Pavo cristatus) can be viewed at Moose Meadows Farm. Although these birds are typically called "peacocks", the peacock is actually only the male. The females are peahens and the chicks, peachicks. Peafowl are originally from India, Sri Lanka and Pakistan although they have been introduced to many areas of the world and these populations are now feral. Each July / August, the peacock sheds all of his train ("tail") feathers during a molt and they regrow over the winter months. The peacock is the national bird of India.Peacock feathers have a variety of uses. Placed in a vase for home decor, they stand on their own or in combination with long dried reeds or catails. The feathers can also be incorporated into costumes, masks, head dresses, feather fans, and unique and colourful jewelry (earrings, pendants, necklaces). The side fibres are often used in fishing fly tying. |
