PONY RIDES & LESSONS
People can gain so much from working with horses, learning horsemanship skills which includes riding. Patience, compassion for another being, responsibility, sportsmanship and plenty more. It can result in a life - long passion and respect for horses and the enjoyment of riding.

At Moose Meadows Farm, we offer both pony rides and riding lessons depending upon the age and experience of the riders.  The instructor, Heloise Dixon-Warren, has over 35 years of experience working with horses. She was in Pony Club for 10 years as a child and achieved the level C2. She can teach both English and western lessons. The emphasis of all our lessons is safety, respect for the horse / pony, and enjoyment.  All of our riding experiences include a component of stable management (grooming, tacking up leading) and riding.  All riding will be done in our 20 m. x 40 m. outdoor arena. The use of a riding helmet is mandatory – this we will provide unless you have your own.  For clothing , we suggest the following: comfortable pants (tights, jeans, track pants, legg’ins), shoes with a heel is mandatory (to lessen the chance that your foot could slip through the stirrup). All riders, or guardians of riders, will have to sign a waiver.

Pony Rides – 40 minutes
Our pony rides are on lead line for children up to 60 lbs. Bella Beauty, a Shetland Pony (10.2 hh), who has been with us since 2002 is the trusty steed.  Upon your arrival, Bella will be at the barn on the hitching post.  She will be more or less ready to be tacked up for riding. She will be ridden with a western saddle (with a horn). Lead line rides requires two persons on the ground - one to lead Bella and the other (preferable a parent) to walk along side the child while astride.
Grooming / Tacking up (10 min.); Riding (20 min.); Untacking (10 min.)
Note: times are approximate
Price: $25.00 (+ $3.00 HST) = $28.00
Note: for every additional 5 minutes of riding, there will be an additional charge of $3.00.

Riding Lessons – 1 hour (to 1 ¼ hour)
We offer riding beginner to intermediate lessons for both adults and teenagers.  For our riding lessons, we use Lady a Tennessee Walker – Quarter Horse. Lady can be ridden with either English or western tack.

Depending upon your level of experience, much of the first lesson may be spent on the ground.  Horses are somewhat predictable so time will be spent teaching you about the correct handling of horses, before allowing you to get on.  This will include haltering, leading, grooming and tacking up.  Some might view this as unnecessary and a waste of money – they are eager to mount up and ride.  However, this is all part of horsemanship and the more competent and comfortable you are around horses, the safer you will be and the better relationship you will have with them.  Your early lessons will be geared towards providing you with the skills you will need to become a good rider.  You will learn the correct way to mount, the correct position while mounted, the aids you will use to communicate with the horse, etc.  When you are ready, we may be offer you the chance of riding on the trails with us or some jumping.  The lesson will be divided into the following:
Grooming, tacking up (10 min.), Riding (40 min.), Untacking, grooming (10 min.)
Note: times are approximate
Price: $40.00 (+ $4.80 HST) = $44.80
