2011 BIRCH TAPPING & SYRUP PRODUCTION WORKSHOPS
March 25th and /or 26th
1 day (7 hours)

Moose Meadows Farm is proud of its involvement in assisting with the establishment of a viable and economical birch syrup industry in Canada. Since 2007, the farm has hosted Introductory Birch Syrup Production Workshops. In the beginning, all workshops were offered, in partnership with Quesnel Community & Economic Development Corporation / QCEDC (www.quesnelinfo.com). The workshops have been very successful and Moose Meadows Farm appreciates the assistance and support received in the past from QCEDC.

In 2010, the farm offered remote workshops in that they were offered outside of the North Cariboo. One was hosted by the College of New Caledonia in Fort St. James, BC whereas the other was hosted by the Sedden Agriculture Centre in Hazelton, BC. In 2011,

Each workshop is approximately 7 hours long. The morning consists of a classroom setting with a power point presentation whereas the afternoon includes a tour of a birch sugar bush and seeing first hand how an evaporator operates. The workshop concludes with a networking session with tasting some sweets of the sugarbush. Workshop fees includes a copy of "The Birch Syrup Production Manual - Tapping into Syrup Boreal Forest Style". Please contact the farm to find out the dates for upcoming workshops.
